terese longva

Terese Longva lives on Skuløy i Møre og Romsdal, an island on the West Coast of Norway, and often uses performance, video and the archive—in the form of documents, books and other ephemeral objects—in installations to examine how social subjectivity is perpetually reconstructed in contemporary society. Terese has had solo exhibitions at Galleri Sirkel 4 in Molde, Østfold Kunstsenter in Fredrikstad, and S12 Gallery in Bergen, all in Norway; internationally she has exhibited and performed in Thailand, China, Poland, Germany, Spain, the USA and the UK.

Most recently, Terese’s performance work “Social Contract” was included in the 2020 edition of Høstutstillingen (the national Autumn Exhibition) at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, and her installation “Seascape Without Coast” was included in the exhibition The Edge of the Sea at Jugendstilsenteret & KUBE Art Museum in Ålesund, which selected her commissioned video work for its permanent collection. Since 2012, Terese has also worked in collaboration with social scientist Harald Dyrkorn, engaging the geological and human routines of the Northern Islands to consider interplays between the center and the periphery, proximity and separateness, and to uncover possibilities of the “we” in remote conditions.
